Cross-genre productions have been prevalent in dance music since before DJs were synonymous with producers. Truly good DJs managed to have a “sound” that identified them, all while mixing and mashing music from various genres that wouldn’t normally go together. Since the focus has shifted to production, mixing genres has become extremely popular (and arguably common place), with pop being brought in by David Guetta, hip hop by Diplo, and funky jazz by guys like GRiZ. BUNT is the latest duo in this line of gifted producers; the German deep-house duo practically has a diploma in musical-mixology, and the audible cocktails they’ve produced are top notch. BUNT recently released a freely downloadable track, ‘Journey ft. Emma Carn’; with ‘Journey’, BUNT’s channeled their inner “Sexy-Sax Man” and Jethro Tull (link on them for those of you wondering who that is, you’ll thank me later) as there’s a healthy serving of saxophone, flute, and acoustic guitar. Mixing traditional instruments into a dance tune isn’t easy, but when it’s done right, it stands out in the crowd and deserves a good listen.
